Excerpt:
The hoofed thing stood up, sending its stool crashing backwards.
“Grab its ankles, Paul,” Gran shouted. I grabbed the thing above its hooves and yanked hard. It toppled over backwards and crashed into the kitchen cupboards.
I pushed aside the tablecloth and emerged from under the table. A creature two meters tall, half goat and half man, was sprawled on the floor. It had a man’s body covered in thick, matted brown hair, but hoofed feet and a goat’s head with a pair of horns that had smashed through a cupboard door when it fell. It twisted its head, trying to pull its horns free, pushing at the door with hands that were delicate, with long thin fingers, in contrast to the rest of its crude, filthy body.
“Hold it down, Paul,” Gran wheezed.
I threw myself across the creature’s body. Pale yellow, putrid smelling slime oozed out of its fur. The creature fixed its blood red eyes on me. “What now?” I called out to Gran.
She had grabbed the creature’s knees and was holding them tight together. The snake emerged from under the table. It had unhinged its jaws and its mouth was now an unnatural gaping hole.
It swallowed the creature’s hooves and began to slither up its legs.
I heard a ripping sound from the cupboard. The creature had torn its horns free. They had wickedly sharp points that were covered in a thick, brown liquid. I guessed it was poison rather than the contents of a broken sauce bottle. I scrabbled with my hands, searching for a weapon, and they closed on the fallen stool.

Sounds like an awesome read! Tell me, what makes this book stand out as opposed to others in the genre?
Aldred Chase says
Thank you for your comment and question. Some things that I like about my book are that it has unusual situations, humor and strong relationships between the characters that grow and develop over the course of the story. I hesitate before saying that makes it stand out because I’ve read a lot of terrific books in this genre that have all of these things.I think the reader decides which books stand out and then word of mouth helps spread the message about them.
